Simone Marchesi,
Seminario sull’Amore: Virginiana Miller, Il primo lunedì del mondo

The essay takes as its object Il primo lunedi’ del mondo, the most recent LP released by the Italian independent rock band Virginiana Miller (the lyrics for which are published in the body of the essay, with glosses). It offers a holistic reading of the album as an exploration of the different ‘ideas of love’ articulated in classical western cultural paradigms. Through a close reading of the lyrics and their musical context, the essay illuminates the links they establish with the treatments of the notion of love shared by foundational moments in theological, philosophical, ethical, and psychological discourses in our culture.

Paolo Divizia, Leonard Cohen e i cantautori italiani: i casi di Fabrizio De André e Francesco De Gregori
The article deals with the influence of Leonard Cohen on Italian songwriters Fabrizio De André and Francesco De Gregori. After an introductory section in which the term “cantautore” (songwriter) is analysed alongside with the overlooked concept of “recorded/performed music”, which still is not perceived as something really different from music-to-be-performed, while “theatre performed” has gained the status of a different art (i.e. cinema), the article quickly reviews the different type of influence exerted by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen on Fabrizio De André and Francesco De Gregori, and then analyses in details the quotations and hints to Cohen’s Story of Isaac which are found in De Gregori’s La casa di Hilde.

Jacob Blakesley, Franco Buffoni: the poietic encounter (jacobdblakesley@gmail.com, Univ. of Leeds)

Franco Buffoni is one of the most celebrated modern Italian poets. His translations — and his rich ideas on translation theory — have been much less studied, however. This essay investigates Buffoni’s work as a translator, specifically a translator of poetry, as seen predominantly in his two quaderni di traduzioni. As Buffoni is a major theorist of translation studies, the approach adopted here is to use his own methodology to examine his translations.
